RAD Ballet

The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is a dance organization that specializes in classical ballet education and training. Founded in 1920 in London, England, RAD was granted a Royal Charter in 1935 and has since become an internationally renowned institution. With 7,500 registered teachers and 250,000 candidates taking RAD examinations each year, the organization is dedicated to promoting dance education and excellence.

RAD offers two examination syllabi, the Graded Examination Syllabus and the Vocational Graded Examination Syllabus. The Graded Examination Syllabus includes Pre-Primary, Primary, and numbered Grades 1-8, which comprise classical ballet, free movement, and character dance. Each grade is designed to build on the previous one, gradually increasing the level of difficulty and developing the student's dance technique.

The Vocational Graded Syllabus is geared towards older children and young adults who are interested in pursuing a career in professional dance. It includes Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1, Advanced 2, and Solo Seal, and focuses exclusively on classical ballet and pointe work. Students who choose to study this series of awards must be proficient in the fundamentals of ballet technique and movement vocabulary.

Yi Dance hosts RAD examinations at its facility, with examiners from around the world. The school boasts a nearly 100% Distinction and Merit pass rate in RAD examinations and is proud to be an RAD Approved Venue (RAV).

BDA Chinese Dance

The Beijing Dance Academy (BDA) is recognized as the largest dance university in the world, offering the most comprehensive dance programs available. Established in 1954, it has gained worldwide recognition as the top dance institution in China. In 1976, BDA assembled a team of the best Chinese Dance educators to develop the Graded Chinese Dance Syllabi. This authoritative syllabus took 18 years to complete and is the only syllabus approved by the Ministry of Education for graded dance education throughout China.

The BDA syllabus consists of Chinese Classical Dance and Chinese Folk Dance, with 13 grades designed for students to progress in difficulty from one level to the next, considering age and skill level. The syllabus emphasizes Chinese classical dance foundation and body rhyme, as well as folk dance from a variety of nationalities, such as Han, Tibet, Mongolia, Uighur, Korea, Tai, Miao, Yi, and more. Additionally, music rhymes are incorporated into the training.

Grades 1-3 are designed for early learning, combining songs and dance to train body coordination and imitation capabilities, which develop children's body presentation and enthusiasm for dance. Grades 4-6 are elementary levels that teach students Chinese classical dance and folk dance with dance capability. Grades 7-10 are intermediate levels that teach basic Chinese dance style and body rhyme with enhanced dance presentation. Grades 11-13 are vocational levels for students above 14 years old.

BDA Examinations take place at Yi Dance with the hosting examiner assigned by BDA coming from Beijing. In past BDA examinations, Yi Dance has maintained a 100% “Distinction” and “Merit” rate, with nearly 86.4% of candidates achieving a Distinction in the 2022 BDA examination.
